An FIR has been registered here against AIMIM Uttar Pradesh unit Chief Shaukat Ali after a video showing him purportedly making a provocative speech surfaced on social media, police said on Tuesday.
According to police, the video shows Ali making objectionable and inflammatory remarks.
Ali, however, said that the video did not show his complete speech.
Kotwali Circle Officer Antariksh Jain said the case has been registered at Lohiyanagar police station under relevant sections of law, and further legal action will follow.
Sachin Sirohi, the leader of a local Hindu outfit, condemned Ali's alleged remarks, claiming that they could disturb communal harmony.
Police have appealed to people to refrain from sharing inflammatory content on social media and maintain peace and order, the officer said.
Today, if injustice is being done to anyone in India or in Uttar Pradesh, it is Muslim, said Ali.
