The bypolls for the Manglaur and Badrinath assembly constituencies are currently taking place in Uttarakhand. Starting at 8 am and continuing until 6 pm, the election is being overseen by officials.

The Manglaur bypoll was prompted by the passing of sitting BSP MLA Sarwat Karim Ansari in October of last year. Following the resignation of sitting Congress MLA Rajendra Bhandari, who switched to the BJP in March this year, the Badrinath seat became vacant.

The BSP has chosen Ansari's son, Ubedur Rehman, as its candidate in the Manglaur constituency.

He is up against Congress nominee Qazi Nizamuddin. Additionally, Gujjar leader and BJP nominee Kartar Singh Bhadana is also in contention in this Muslim and Dalit-dominated constituency, which has had either BSP or Congress representation in the past.

In Badrinath, the contest is directly between BJP's Rajendra Bhandari and Congress newcomer Lakhpat Singh Butola.

Other candidates in the race include former CRPF officer Himmat Singh of the Sainik Samaj Party and Naval Khali, an Independent candidate who is a journalist.

The results of the bypolls will be tabulated on July 13th.
