Himachal Pradesh minister Vikramaditya Singh slammed Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut's statement that people should bring their Aadhaar cards to meet her. Singh said public representatives should meet all sections of people without requiring identity cards.
Ranaut had recently said that due to a large number of tourists in the state, people should bring Aadhaar cards to identify themselves as constituents to meet her. Singh responded, saying it's their responsibility as representatives to meet people from all sections, regardless of their identity or purpose.
Singh then stated that anyone from the state can meet him without needing identity cards or letters.
He believes that requiring such documentation is unnecessary and goes against the spirit of public service.
Responding to her remarks, Congress minister Singh said, "We are representatives of the people and it is our responsibility to meet people from all sections. Whether it is a small or big work, policy matter, or individual matter, it does not require any identity cards. If people are coming to meet public representatives, they are coming for some work and saying that you need this paper or that is not right," he said.
"Anyone from anywhere in the state can come and meet me", Singh added.
Ranaut had made the remarks at her newly opened office in Mandi, stating that people should bring their Aadhaar cards and a letter outlining their purpose and matter. Singh and Ranaut had recently contested the Mandi Lok Sabha election, which Ranaut won.
"As all of you know a large number of tourists visit Himachal, so bringing Aadhaar from the Mandi Parliament constituency to meet me is necessary," she said.
Singh's response highlights the difference in approach between the two leaders, with Singh emphasizing accessibility and Ranaut prioritizing documentation.
