Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of late Minister Sushma Swarajan and advocate of the Supreme Court is making her Lok Sabha debut this year, representing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from New Delhi.
Bansuri expressed gratitude to party leaders and workers for the opportunity. Indian lawyer and politician Sushma Swaraj held the office of Minister of External Affairs of India in the first Narendra Modi government from 2014 to 2019.
The 40-year-old who is an alumnus of Oxford University, also remained as the additional advocate general for Haryana. Bansuri previously held the role of co-convener of the BJP's legal cell in Delhi last year. Prior to pursuing a career in law, she completed her studies in English literature at the University of Warwick, England.
Bansuri recently condemned Arvind Kejriwal after the AAP supremo claimed that BJP offered him to join the saffron party.
What does Bansuri have to say about getting a ticket?
"I feel grateful. I express gratitude towards PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah ji, JP Nadda ji, and every BJP worker for giving me this opportunity. With the resolution of 'ab ki baar 400 paar', every BJP worker will work to make Narendra Modi the 'PradhanSewak' for the third time."
"I want to thank Sangathan Mahamantri Pawan Rana, Jay Panda, my elder sister Alka Gujjar, and every single BJP worker who has bestowed this opportunity on me".
Meanwhile, expressing pride in being Sushma Swaraj's daughter, Bansuri stated, "In my previous life, I must have done some good karma for Sushma Swaraj to be my mother. She is my inspiration and my guiding light. As of now, my responsibility is that of a con-convener of the BJP Delhi Legal Cell and I shall be focusing on discharging this responsibility."
BJP today released the first list of its Lok Sabha candidates for 195 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be contesting from Varanasi, meanwhile, Union Minister Amit Shah has been fielded from Gandhinagar.
