Former BJP general secretary Ram Madhav has alleged that the National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of getting support from former terrorists in their campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Assembly elections, and their manifestoes advocate separatism and “revival of terrorism.”

Talking to reporters after addressing party workers at BJP’s Assembly poll candidate from Lal Chowk,  Engineer Aijaz Hussain’s residence at Balhama, Srinagar, Madhav alleged that he had noticed while in Srinagar that NC and PDP were getting support from terrorists.

“Now it is up to the people, whether they want to revive terrorism in J&K or continue with peace. If people want peace to continue, they have to vote for BJP. We will start our winning streak from Lal Chowk, and the people must ensure the victory of Aijaz from the Lal Chowk seat,” he said.

When asked about the restoration of statehood in J&K, he said the immediate focus of the party is to form a government in the UT. “You will witness that for the first time in history, J&K will have a BJP government. A new chapter will be added to the history of J&K,” he said.

Madhav added that the “BJP is eyeing 45 seats – 35 of which are coming from Jammu and the remaining 10 from Kashmir Valley. If this happens, and this should happen, then those who ruined J&K for decades are removed from politics," he said while indirectly referring to the NC and PDP.

He also confirmed the Home Minister’s visit to the UT from September 6-7, stating that soon after Shah’s visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other party top brass will also visit J&K for campaigning. “Shah will release the party manifesto in Jammu,” he said.

The BJP leader accompanied Aijaz in a rally from Balhama to Srinagar, where the latter will be filing his nomination papers from the Lal Chowk Assembly segment. Aijaz will face NC’s Ehsan Pardesi and the Apni Party’s Ashraf Mir in a triangular contest.
