ICC granted a sum of PKR 12.80 billion to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ahead of the Champions Trophy (CT) 2025 which is scheduled to take place from February to March next year.
PCB’s chief finance officer, Javed Murtaz prepared the budget in connivance with ICC’s chief finance officer, Ankur Khanna.
According to the reports, the sum approved will be used to improve and renovate the places in Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. Both the chiefs from their respective boards worked in cohesion to end up with the allotted sum.
With the Indian team still due to give their approval regarding their visit to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, BCCI has requested a hybrid model ahead of the games. A hybrid model was implemented in the Asia Cup last year as well.
The match between the arch-rivals India and Pakistan is scheduled to take place on March 1, 2025. The venue for the match is still to be decided. If team India reaches the final in the CT 2025, the final fixture will take place in Lahore.
BCCI on finalizing the venue said, it is not a bilateral decision between us and the PCB, the ICC will decide.
“It isn’t bilateral, where the two boards held discussions. No dialogue happened between us and PCB on the Champions Trophy. Since it wasn’t on any of the agendas, it wasn’t discussed during the annual group meeting too, It is still time away and ICC will handle it,” quoted BCCI.
Pakistan all-rounder Hassan Ali expressed his view by saying:
“As our chairman has already said, if the champion trophy is going to be held in Pakistan, then it will be in Pakistan. If India doesn’t come, will play without them. Cricket should be played in Pakistan, and if India doesn’t participate, it doesn’t mean cricket has ended. There are many other teams besides India,” said Ali.
