Nitin Narang, the President of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) remarked the victory of India’s youngest-ever World Champion, D Gukesh as an “extraordinary achievement.”
Dommaraju Gukesh won the World Chess Championship and became the youngest ever to lift the title at the age of 18. He defeated China’s Ding Liren, who clinched the same title last year.
“I am honoured and immensely proud to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dommaraju Gukesh on his phenomenal achievement of becoming the youngest World Chess Champion in the history of our nation,” said the president while congratulating the Indian Grandmaster.
“Gukesh's remarkable journey from a young prodigy to the pinnacle of global chess is nothing short of inspirational. His extraordinary performance in defeating the reigning world champion Ding Liren is a testament to his exceptional skill, unwavering dedication, and remarkable mental fortitude,” continued Narang.
Taking forward the incredible legacy of the great Viswanathan Anand, Gukesh became only the second Indian to clinch the coveted prize after the iconic player, who owned the crown five times in his career.
He secured the required 7.5 points against 6.5 of his Chinese opponent after winning the 14th and last classical time control game of the match that seemed headed for a draw for the most part.
As the winner, he will walk away with a whopping USD 1.3 million (approx Rs 11.03 crore) from the 2.5 million total prize purse.
AICF in its statement stated, “At such a young age, Gukesh has demonstrated a level of strategic brilliance and composure that transcends conventional expectations.”
Gukesh has become a beacon of inspiration for millions of young chess enthusiasts across India, proving that with passion, hard work, and determination, extraordinary dreams are achievable.
The administrative body said that will always support young talent and this victory validates long-term commitment.
“AICF has always believed in nurturing young talent, and Gukesh's world championship victory validates our long-term commitment to developing chess players who can compete and excel at the highest international levels,” concluded the statement.
