Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has been ruled out for the remainder of the season following a hamstring injury that requires surgery, adding to the club’s mounting defensive woes ahead of their crucial Champions League quarterfinal clash against Real Madrid.
The Brazilian international suffered the injury during the first half of Arsenal's 2-1 Premier League victory over Fulham on Tuesday.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the club confirmed that Gabriel will undergo a surgical procedure on his hamstring in the coming days. Following surgery, he will begin his recovery and rehabilitation program with the goal of returning in time for the start of next season.
The injury comes at a challenging time for Arsenal, who are already facing defensive uncertainty. The squad is dealing with fitness concerns around Riccardo Calafiori, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Ben White, while right back Jurrien Timber struggled with a pre-existing issue during the Fulham game. With the first leg of their tie against Real Madrid scheduled for Tuesday, these injuries present a significant setback.

Arsenal's injury troubles extend beyond the defense. The club has also dealt with extended absences of key players like Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, and Kai Havertz throughout the season.
Havertz, who is also sidelined with a hamstring issue, has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign. Meanwhile, Saka made his return on Tuesday after being out of action for more than four months.
Despite the setbacks, Arsenal remains second in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by 12 points with eight matches remaining in the season.
