Arunachal Pradesh will soon construct a dedicated archery stadium, Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced on Sunday, reinforcing his government’s push to make the state a premier sporting hub in the Northeast.
The announcement came during the inauguration of the 42nd NTPC Sub-Junior National Archery Championship at the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in Yupia.
Khandu described 2025 as a “landmark year for Indian archery,” citing India’s first-ever gold at the World Archery Championship, a strong showing at the 24th Asian Archery Championship, and seven medals at the World Archery Para Championship.
Highlighting local talent, the CM praised archers Maselo Mihu and Sorang Yumi for their international achievements, which inspire young sportspersons in the state. “Archery is deeply rooted in Arunachal’s culture and sporting legacy,” he said, noting it was the first discipline to win both international medals and a National Games gold for the state.

Khandu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sports development through investments in training infrastructure, academies, and youth programs under Khelo India and state initiatives. He urged participants to uphold discipline, sportsmanship, and camaraderie, emphasising that events of this scale foster learning, friendship, and national integration.
The CM acknowledged NTPC’s support for Indian sports, the Archery Association of India for hosting the championship in Arunachal, and the Arunachal Archery Association and volunteers for ensuring a smooth event.
The championship brings together 46 teams from 28 states, eight union territories, and ten affiliated archery units, and will conclude on November 30.
