India’s Manpreet Kaur claimed the bronze medal in the women’s shot put at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 on Friday, while compatriot Krishna Jayasankar Menon finished fifth in the event.
Manpreet’s best effort measured 17.17 metres, which she achieved with her fourth throw. China’s Song Jiayuan took the gold medal with 19.40m, and Zhang Linru secured silver with 18.14m.
South Korea’s Jeong Yu Sun placed fourth after recording 16.78m. Krishna Menon’s top throw was 16.57m.
The shot put bronze formed part of a strong medal haul for India on the sixth day of the Asian Games. Shooters Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, while Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil and Niraj Kumar earned silver in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event.
India also added a bronze in table tennis, with Manush Shah and Diya Chitale reaching the mixed doubles semi-finals. Their campaign ended at that stage following a defeat to China’s Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha.
In squash, Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar secured a medal for India by advancing to the mixed doubles semi-finals. Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh also progressed to the respective singles semi-finals.
Both Indian kabaddi teams reached the finals after winning their semi-final matches against Thailand and Nepal. In hockey, the Indian women’s team defeated Japan 3-1 in a Pool B fixture.
Swimmer Rishabh Das finished sixth in the men’s 200m backstroke final, while weightlifter Seram Nirupama Devi stood seventh in the women’s 61kg category. Boxer Preeti was eliminated in the round of 16 after a 0-5 loss to North Korea’s Pang Chol Mi.
India’s medal tally stood at 21 at the time of writing, comprising two gold, eight silver and 11 bronze medals. The country was placed 12th in the standings.
