Bayern's Davies out for months, Upamecano also injured.

Bayern Munich have been dealt a major blow with the news that Alphonso Davies will be sidelined for several months due to a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The left-back sustained the injury while on international duty with the Canadian national team and will undergo surgery on Wednesday. The setback comes shortly after Davies signed a contract extension with Bayern, keeping him at the club until June 2030.

The 24-year-old’s absence will undoubtedly be felt by the German champions, as Davies has been a crucial part of Bayern's squad since his arrival from the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2018/19 season.

Over the years, he has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the world, known for his remarkable speed, dribbling ability, and defensive capabilities. During his time at Bayern, Davies has made 226 competitive appearances, scoring 14 goals and providing 34 assists.

He has also helped the club secure five Bundesliga titles, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, two DFB Cups, and three German Supercups.

In addition to Davies, Bayern will also be without Dayot Upamecano, who has been ruled out for several weeks due to loose bodies in his left knee. The French defender's absence adds to Bayern's defensive concerns, leaving the team with a challenging period ahead.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, expressed his disappointment over the injuries, acknowledging the difficulties posed by losing two key players.

However, he remained optimistic about the squad’s ability to adapt and continue their pursuit of success.

Eberl assured fans that the club would provide Davies with full support throughout his recovery while closely monitoring Upamecano’s progress.

Davies picked up the injury early in Canada’s 2-1 victory over the USA in California. The timing of the injury is particularly unfortunate, given his recent contract extension and the crucial phase of the season Bayern are currently navigating.

The club will now have to rely on their depth and defensive resources to cope with the absence of both Davies and Upamecano.
