India suffered a setback on the second day of the fifth Test in Sydney as captain and lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah left the field for precautionary scans after experiencing discomfort following his post-lunch bowling spell.
Bumrah, who has been instrumental in the series with 32 wickets, bowled one over after lunch before appearing to struggle with what seemed like a side strain.
He discussed his condition with stand-in captain Virat Kohli before exiting the field. Kohli has assumed leadership duties in Bumrah’s absence.
In the morning session, Bumrah had delivered another stellar performance, taking 2/33 in 10 overs, including the dismissal of Australian mainstay Marnus Labuschagne.
Broadcast footage showed Bumrah departing the stadium in an SUV, accompanied by team security liaison officer Anshuman Upadhyay and the team doctor.
Fox Sports broadcast visuals confirmed Bumrah’s departure, sparking concerns over his fitness as the series heads into its decisive phase.
The Indian team management has not issued an official statement yet on Bumrah’s condition. His potential unavailability could significantly impact India’s chances, given his pivotal role in the bowling attack.
