The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly denied speculation regarding the ICC Champions Trophy being moved out of the country due to delays in construction work at the three host stadiums.
The tournament, scheduled to commence on 19 February, will see matches hosted at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, and Karachi’s National Bank Stadium. Indian fixtures, however, will be held in Dubai.
A PCB source emphasised the organisation’s preparedness, coupled by the presence of a high-ranking delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC), including officials overseeing broadcasting, hospitality, and event operations.
"The PCB has spent nearly PKR 12 billion to upgrade our stadiums to make them fitting for an event like the Champions Trophy, which was awarded to us," the source stated.
The PCB earlier issued a statement to dispel rumours circulating in the media about incomplete venue preparations.
“We gave the statement because our media also started flashing such speculative news without checking the facts. This would have caused chaos and confusion amongst the PCB, ICC, government, commercial partners and fans affecting the ticketing and marketing of the event," the source explained.
Clarifying concerns over the construction at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium, the official noted, “The stadium's work is being monitored closely by the PCB and concerned officials and they would be ready to host the CT matches on time.”
The source further criticised a local reporter for unauthorised filming of ongoing work at the Karachi venue, portraying what was described as an unbalanced view.
The PCB remains resolute in its commitment to delivering a successful Champions Trophy and has sought to reassure stakeholders of its progress.
