Chelsea secured a much-needed victory in the Premier League, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. This win ended their five-match winless run and propelled them to fourth place in the standings, giving a boost to their aspirations for the season.
The match saw Chelsea dominate early on, with Tosin Adarabioyo breaking the deadlock midway through the first half. The centre-back’s composed finish marked his first goal for the club, making him Chelsea's 13th different Premier League scorer this season.
Only Arsenal, with 14 different players on the scoresheet, have had more goalscorers in the league so far this term.
Despite their strong start, Chelsea’s lead was briefly threatened when Matt Doherty scored from a corner in injury time during the first half. However, the Blues regained control after the break with two goals in quick succession.
Marc Cucurella restored Chelsea’s advantage with a well-taken close-range finish. Just five minutes later, Noni Madueke sealed the win, applying the finishing touch after Trevoh Chalobah's header looked destined for the net on his return to the squad.
This victory allowed Chelsea to leapfrog both Newcastle United and Manchester City in the table, climbing to fourth place. Meanwhile, Wolves remain in 17th, just above the relegation zone, with only goal difference keeping them safe for now.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reflected on his side's performance, praising the first 40 minutes as "excellent," during which they dominated play and created numerous chances.
However, he acknowledged that a familiar issue arose towards the end of the first half, as Wolves' confidence grew following their equaliser. "We started to struggle a little bit," he admitted. "But after the second and third goals, we regained control."
Chelsea’s victory was vital, not just for the three points, but also for their momentum as they look to strengthen their position in the top four for the remainder of the season.
With improved performances, especially in the second half, the team appears to be regaining the form needed to challenge for higher honours in the Premier League.
