China overtakes Ukraine, leads Winter Paralympics medals tally

The People’s Republic of China has so far secured eight gold, five silver and three bronze medals (total 16), building on impressive results in para biathlon and other disciplines.

Day four proved to be the most exciting so far, with athletes delivering outstanding displays in para snowboard cross.


China has taken a commanding lead on day four of the Winter Paralympic Games in Cortina and Milano, dominating the medal tally with strong performances on ice and snow.

 

The People’s Republic of China has so far secured eight gold, five silver and three bronze medals (total 16), building on impressive results in para biathlon and other disciplines.

 

Ukraine, which had topped the standings for the first three days, has been pushed into second place with three gold, two silver and five bronze medals (total 10), continuing to show resilience in skiing and biathlon events.

 

Austria holds the third spot with gold medals earned through alpine successes, while North American powerhouses Canada and the United States round out the top five with one gold, three silver, and two bronze and one gold, three silver, and one bronze, respectively.

 

Day four proved to be the most exciting so far, with athletes delivering outstanding displays in para snowboard cross.

 

The host nation Italy finally claimed its first gold medal when Emanuel Perathoner produced a powerful performance to win the men’s SB-LL2 category.

France’s Cécile Hernandez took the women’s SB-LL2 event, dominating the final from start to finish.

 

China dominated Sunday’s programme, winning four out of the six gold medals available across different competitions.

 

With 22 of the 79 medal events now completed, the Games continue to deliver spectacular performances, echoing the high standards set by the Winter Olympics that concluded last month.
