Gujarat Titans (GT) crushed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 89 runs to officially end their hopes of making it to the top four of the IPL 2026 season. GT has strengthened its position with strong chances of facing Qualifier 1 after dominating the match proceedings against the Yellow Army.
Batting first, GT posted a formidable 229 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, the entire CSK batting line-up collapsed and was bowled out for just 140 runs.
The win was set up by Sai Sudharsan’s 84, Shubman Gill’s 64, and Jos Buttler’s explosive 57, which helped them post 229 runs in the first innings.
In reply, CSK were bundled out for 140 runs in 13.4 overs, with ShivamDube being the only batter who played some smooth strokes.
CSK’s multiple changes in this high-stakes game cost them dearly. Team captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said the decision was made based on match combinations, and they expected Matthew Short to be used as a bowling option.
However, the Aussie all-rounder never got a chance to come in and bowl.
Gill and Sudharsan have fond memories while facing CSK in Ahmedabad, as the duo had scored hundreds in a record 210-run stand back in 2024.
The way they started, it seemed like Chennai was in for a sense of déjà vu.
With this loss, CSK have officially crashed out of the 2026 IPL season.
