As the Sunrisers Hyderabad broke the highest-ever IPL score record for the second time in this season, reaching a massive total of 287 runs, things seemed bleak for the Bengaluru squad.

That’s when Dinesh Karthik seemed to come in clutch, but fate had other plans.

For SRH, Australian batter Travis Head smashed a century while his skipper Pat Cummins grabbed three wickets for the Telugu squad.

SRH had on March 27 smashed a sensational 277/3 against Mumbai Indians to reset the previous record.

Travis (102 off 41 balls) smashed a 39-ball hundred and shared a 108-run stand with opener Abhishek Sharma (34) to guide former IPL champions to a record IPL total.

RCB’s innings:

With Virat and Faf Du Plessis setting up a hopeful initial partnership in the first six overs, things went downhill after Kohli’s dismissal.

Skipper Cummins took 3 wickets and Markande spun out two RCB batsmen to ensure their safety, as at one point the target had seemed achievable.

With commentators calling Karthik a ‘lone warrior’, his explosive knock of 83 off 35 balls was appreciated by the crowd, as well as his team, as he took the team to 262, a ‘respectable score’ to lose the match.

Brief Scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 287 for 3 in 20 overs overs (Abhishek Sharma 34, Travis Head 102, Heinrich Klaasen 67, Aiden Markram 32 not out, Abdul Samad 37 not out; Lockie Ferguson 2/52).

Royal Challengers Bengaluru 262 for 7 in 20 overs (Virat Kohli 42, Faf du Plessis 62, Dinesh Karthik 83; Mayank Markande 2/46, Pat Cummins 3/43) by 25 runs.
