Former Indian cricketing legend Kapil Dev has praised Jasprit Bumrah, asserting that the current pacer surpasses him by a significant margin.
Bumrah's stellar performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup, where he has taken 11 wickets with an impressive economy of 4.08 in 23 overs, drew admiration from Kapil.
"Bumrah is 1000 times better than me. These young boys are far better than us. We had more experience. They are better," Kapil Dev commented.
Known for his all-round skills, Kapil Dev, who clinched a then-world record of 434 Test wickets, acknowledged Bumrah's prowess in modern cricket.
Bumrah's international career boasts 159 Test wickets in 26 matches, 149 ODI wickets in 89 appearances, and 85 T20I scalps from 68 games.
Kapil, who led India to its first-ever World Cup victory in 1983, also commended the current team's fitness levels.
"They are very good. Outstanding. They are fitter. They are much more hardworking. They are fantastic," he added, highlighting the evolution of cricketing standards over the years.
Meanwhile, India, led by Rohit Sharma, aims to accomplish a feat on June 27 not achieved in a decade: qualifying for the T20 World Cup final.
The Men in Blue last reached the final in 2014, when Sri Lanka, led by Lasith Malinga, claimed the title.
Defending champions England secured their second T20 World Cup trophy in 2022 by defeating Pakistan.
