Draper clinches maiden ATP 1000 title in Indian Wells.

Jack Draper delivered a commanding performance in the biggest final of his career, securing his first ATP Masters 1000 title at the Indian Wells Open. The 23-year-old Briton overwhelmed Denmark’s Holger Rune with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the final, marking a milestone moment in his career.

Draper and Rune made history as the first non-Top 10 players to contest a Masters final since 2021, also in Indian Wells. The Briton showed remarkable composure and power, taking full control of the match from the outset.

“It’s incredible. I wasn’t expecting this. I’ve put in a lot of work over time, and I’m just so grateful and so happy to be out here, playing with my body feeling healthy and my mind in a great place," Draper said after his one-hour, nine-minute triumph. "All the work I’ve done over the last few years feels like it’s coming together on the big stage, and I can’t put that into words.”

Draper dominated on serve, conceding just four points in the opening set, according to Infosys ATP Stats. He held a break point for a 5-0 lead but remained in control regardless.

He carried his momentum into the second set, breaking Rune in the opening game and never allowing his opponent a chance to recover. He sealed victory without facing a single break point.

His path to the title included impressive wins against two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, as well as Americans Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz. Draper’s triumph at Indian Wells secured him his third ATP Tour title and his first on outdoor hard courts.

The victory also comes with another reward, as Draper is now set to break into the ATP Top 10 for the first time. He will rise seven places to a career-high World No. 7 when the rankings are updated on Monday.

Sunday’s final was historic in multiple ways. It was the first ATP Masters 1000 final contested by two players born in the 2000s, and the first between players outside the Top 10 since World No. 26 Cameron Norrie defeated No. 36 Nikoloz Basilashvili in the 2021 Indian Wells final.

Additionally, it was the youngest Indian Wells final since Rafael Nadal, aged 22, defeated 21-year-old Andy Murray in 2009, according to ATP Stats. Draper’s stunning run at Indian Wells cements his place among the sport’s rising stars and signals his readiness to compete at the highest level.
