Former head coach of India, Rahul Dravid has declined a Rs 2.5 crore bonus offered by the BCCI in recognition of India's recent T20 World Cup victory in the Americas.
Despite the board's attempt to double his reward to Rs 5 crore, matching the players' bonus, Dravid opted to receive the standard coaching staff payout of Rs 2.5 crore.
Sources reveal that the 51-year-old saw it fit to maintain parity among the coaching team.
This decision reflects a gesture of goodwill rather than any formal obligation, considering Dravid's tenure had officially concluded after last year's 50-over World Cup held in India.
However, persuasion from skipper Rohit Sharma and BCCI officials convinced Dravid to extend his coaching role until the T20 World Cup, acknowledging the timing challenges of appointing a new coach.
Ending his coaching stint with a World Cup triumph, Dravid is now speculated to potentially join an IPL franchise as a mentor.
Nevertheless, the Bengaluru-based coach appears inclined to take a brief respite before contemplating his next career move.
In the interim, the BCCI has appointed former India opener Gautam Gambhir as Dravid's successor for a three-year term.
Gambhir, celebrated for guiding the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title earlier this year, assumes coaching responsibilities amid high expectations.
