England defeated France 6-4 in the third-place match of the ongoing FIFA World Cup on Saturday night. This year’s FIFA WC is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. For France, Kylian Mbappé scored his 22nd overall goal of the competition to break the all-time scoring record and cement his legacy as the best striker in the world to have played in the tournament.
The Three Lions will walk away from the World Cup with a third-place finish after beating the French side 6-4 in a thrilling bronze-medal match in Miami on Saturday. The 2018 champions found themselves 4-0 down in the first half of the match as a fired-up England side hammered France.
Mbappé, France’s 27-year-old captain, led the charge and netted in the 48th minute to revive his side and draw level with Lionel Messi for the most goals at a World Cup (21) and the most at this tournament so far (9).
France then scored their second goal courtesy of a brilliant strike from Bradley Barcola six minutes later before Mbappé returned to the attack and netted in the 66th minute to become the all-time World Cup goal-scorer with 22 goals and the highest at this tournament with 10.
Shortly afterwards, Ousmane Dembélé scored his sixth goal of the competition to make it 4-4 against the English side. However, Jude Bellingham became England’s all-time scorer in this tournament when he netted his seventh goal and the sixth for the Three Lions to secure them a podium finish at the World Cup.
