Indian shooters Esha Singh and Manu Bhaker remained in strong contention for a place in the women’s 25m Sport Pistol final at the ISSF World Championship after the precision stage concluded on Thursday.
Esha, the 2024 Olympian, occupies fourth place with a score of 294-11x (98, 97, 99), while double Olympic medallist Manu is seventh with 292-11x (98, 96, 98). Rahi Sarnobat, another experienced Indian shooter, is currently 56th with 284-7x (95, 96, 93).
Turkey’s Sevval Ilayda Tarhan leads the qualification with an exceptional 299-12x (100, 100, 99), followed by Paris Olympic silver medallist Camille Jedrzejewski of France (295-13x) and Iran’s Haniyeh Rostamiyan (295-13x), the French shooter taking second on countback. Iran’s Golnoush Sebghatollahi and Mina Ghorbani are fifth and sixth (292-13x), while Lin Jou-Yu of Chinese Taipei is eighth (292-9x).
India has a strong legacy in women’s pistol events at ISSF competitions. Manu Bhaker has previously won multiple medals at World Cups and the 2022 ISSF World Championships, while Rahi Sarnobat and Esha Singh have also contributed to India’s rising stature in shooting. With the rapid-fire stage scheduled for Friday, Singh and Bhaker remain key medal contenders, aiming to bolster India’s tally at the prestigious championship.
