India T20 captain Shreyas Iyer admitted his side failed to adjust to the conditions in England, leading to a disappointing tour in which the visitors were comprehensively outplayed by both Ireland and England. Despite the setbacks, Iyer said the difficult experience would help him grow as a leader and strengthen the team ahead of future assignments.

India's white-ball tour ended on a disappointing note as the visitors suffered a 0-4 defeat in the five-match T20I series against England after the opening game was washed out due to rain. Earlier in the tour, India had also endured a 0-2 series loss to Ireland, making it a forgettable start to Iyer's tenure as T20 captain.

Iyer took over the captaincy from Suryakumar Yadav following India's successful T20 World Cup campaign but found the transition challenging against quality opposition in unfamiliar conditions.

Reflecting on the series, the skipper acknowledged that India struggled to adapt to the pace, bounce and movement offered by English pitches. He conceded that England consistently outperformed his side with both bat and ball and also held the edge in the field.

"We were outplayed in all departments. The biggest lesson from this tour is that we needed to adapt much quicker to the conditions. England executed their plans better than us and deserved the results," Iyer said after the final match.

The Indian batting line-up struggled to build partnerships throughout the series, while the bowlers found it difficult to contain England's aggressive approach. Costly fielding lapses further compounded the team's problems, allowing the hosts to dominate key moments in almost every match.

Despite the one-sided scoreline, Iyer remained optimistic about the team's future and viewed the tour as an important learning experience. He said setbacks are part of international cricket and expressed confidence that the players would return stronger after analysing their mistakes.

When asked how he had handled the pressure and expectations that came with leading India for the first time, Iyer appeared composed.
"It's not hard, honestly," he said during the post-match press conference, adding that he remained focused on supporting his teammates and creating a positive environment despite the disappointing results.

The skipper also stressed that the team would closely review its performances before the next international assignment, with greater emphasis on adapting quickly to overseas conditions and improving execution in crucial phases of the game.

Although the tour ended without a victory, Iyer said the experience would serve as a valuable lesson for both him and the squad as they look to rebuild and perform more consistently in challenging overseas conditions.
