The 68th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle saw enthusiastic participation in the national capital, as over 800 people gathered at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex ahead of World Health Day to promote holistic fitness.

Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with multiple sports and fitness bodies, the initiative combined a 5 km cycling ride with a range of activities aimed at encouraging active lifestyles.

Participants engaged in various fitness zones set up across the venue, featuring badminton, table tennis, cricket, tug of war, yoga and rope skipping. Traditional indoor games such as carrom, ludo and snakes and ladders added a nostalgic touch, drawing people across age groups.

A special yoga consultation booth, supported by the Ministry of AYUSH under its Yoga 365 initiative, offered guided sessions, while a smart wall fitness challenge and darts stations attracted considerable interest.

The programme is conducted simultaneously across states and Union Territories, including centres run by the Sports Authority of India and Khelo India facilities, reflecting its growing national footprint.

Participants described the event as a community celebration of health and fitness. “I came here just to cycle, but this feels like a full-fledged fitness festival.

There is an activity for everyone,” said Ritu Sharma, a Delhi resident. Another participant, Jasmeet Chandok, said the event felt “like a World Health Day

carnival”.

Healthcare professionals also turned out in large numbers, with organisations such as the Indian Medical Association and the Indian Red Cross Society joining as partners. Their participation underscored the emphasis on preventive healthcare and daily fitness.

The event featured Zumba sessions, yoga routines and rope skipping zones, alongside the presence of sportspersons and fitness influencers, including former cricketer Parvinder Awana, powerlifting coach Mukesh Gehlot and Paralympian Pushpendra Singh.

Launched in December 2024 by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the initiative has grown into a nationwide movement, recording participation from over 28 lakh citizens across more than 2.63 lakh locations.

Officials said the initiative aims to reinforce the message that fitness should be an integral part of everyday life, encouraging people to adopt healthier habits through simple activities such as cycling.
