Delhi Capitals’ captain Axar Patel has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during his team’s thrilling victory over Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League match played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.
The IPL confirmed the penalty through an official media advisory issued after the match on Monday. According to the statement, Delhi Capitals were found guilty of breaching the league’s minimum over-rate regulations during Match No. 55 of the 2026 IPL season.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations, Axar Patel has been fined INR 12 lakh,” the advisory stated.

Despite the disciplinary action, it was an important evening for Delhi Capitals on the field as they secured a hard-fought three-wicket win to keep their fading playoff hopes alive. Chasing a competitive target, Axar led from the front with a crucial counterattacking half-century, while David Miller also played a vital knock under pressure to guide the visitors home in a tense finish.
The victory provided much-needed momentum to Delhi, who had been struggling for consistency throughout the season. The win not only boosted team morale but also kept them mathematically alive in the race for the playoffs.
Currently placed seventh in the IPL points table, Delhi Capitals still face an uphill task to qualify for the knockout stage and will likely need victories in their remaining matches along with favourable results from other teams.
Axar’s leadership and all-round contributions have been among the positives for Delhi this season, even though the side has struggled to string together consecutive wins. The captain has often stepped up with both bat and ball in pressure situations, and his innings against Punjab Kings once again highlighted his value to the franchise.
Delhi Capitals will next return to their home ground for a crucial encounter against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, a match that could prove decisive for their playoff aspirations.
