Veteran Indian goalkeeper and former captain P R Sreejesh announced on Monday that the upcoming Paris Olympics will mark his final appearance on the international stage.
The 36-year-old, who has amassed 328 international caps, will participate in his fourth Olympic Games, with the tournament set to commence on July 26.
Reflecting on his illustrious career, Sreejesh expressed both pride and anticipation in a statement released by Hockey India.
"As I prepare for my last dance in Paris, I look back with immense pride and forward with hope," he said.
The goalkeeper, renowned for his remarkable contributions to Indian hockey, has been an integral part of the national team since his debut at the 2010 World Cup.
Sreejesh's career highlights include gold at the 2014 Asian Games and a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang.
He was also a key member of the Indian team that clinched the Asian Champions Trophy in 2018 and the FIH Men's Series Finals in 2019, held in Bhubaneswar.
Acknowledging the support of his family, teammates, and fans, Sreejesh said, "This journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, and I am forever grateful for the love and support from everyone involved. My teammates and I are determined to give our best in Paris, with the aim of changing the color of our medal."
