Gujarat Titans' Rashid Khan bowls a delivery during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 cricket match between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad, in Ahmedabad, Friday, May 2, 2025.

In a high-octane clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday, Gujarat Titans (GT) outclassed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 38 runs, bolstering their playoff aspirations in the IPL 2025. The Titans posted a formidable 224/6, thanks to a scintillating 89 from David Miller, before restricting SRH to 186/8.

Titans' batting brilliance

Opting to bowl first, SRH's decision backfired as GT's top order unleashed a batting onslaught. David Miller led the charge with a blistering 89 off 44 balls, including 8 fours and 5 sixes. Captain Shubman Gill contributed a steady 54, anchoring the innings. Despite a controversial run-out that saw Gill's dismissal, the Titans maintained momentum. Gill, visibly upset, remarked, "I was clearly in. The glove was on the bat." The Titans amassed 224/6, setting a daunting target for SRH.

SRH's valiant effort falls short

In response, SRH's openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head provided a brisk start, scoring 57 runs in the first six overs. However, the introduction of Rashid Khan turned the tide. Khan's crafty bowling led to Head's dismissal, and he finished with figures of 2/28. Despite a valiant 65 from Heinrich Klaasen, SRH fell short, ending at 186/8.

Captain's take

Reflecting on the match, GT skipper Shubman Gill stated, "We executed our plans well. The bowlers held their nerve, and Miller's innings was exceptional." SRH captain Pat Cummins acknowledged the defeat, saying, "We started well but lost momentum in the middle overs. Credit to GT for their performance."
