An impressive record of four BWF titles and two runner-up finishes in the last two years sums up the steady rise of Haryana’s young shuttler Devika Sihag, who is quietly building a reputation on the international badminton circuit through dedication, discipline and consistent performances. The 20-year-old, born in Hansi, honed her skills in Panchkula, training at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium.
The youngster has already captured two Super 300 titles, achievements that underline her growing confidence and ability to compete with some of the best players on the tour. Yet, for Devika, these victories are only stepping stones toward a much bigger dream, earning a place in the Indian team for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
“Yes, that is my biggest goal right now. I want to give my best shot to secure a place in the Indian squad for the Olympics,” Devika said, speaking about her long-term ambitions.
One of her most memorable performances came at the Thailand Masters, where she delivered a dominant display against Malaysia’s accomplished shuttler Goh Jin Wei. Devika took complete control of the match from the very beginning, winning the opening game 21-08. She was leading comfortably 6-3 in the second when Goh Jin Wei was forced to retire due to injury, handing the Indian a convincing victory.
The win not only highlighted her attacking skills, but also her composure and confidence against experienced international opponents. Earlier in her career, Devika had also shown promise at the Estonian International, where she finished runner-up after losing to Indonesia’s Rosy Pancasari in the final. Although she fell short of the title, the tournament proved to be an important learning experience and one of her earliest steps on the international stage.
Currently honing her skills at the prestigious Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru, Devika credits the academy’s structured training environment for helping her grow as a player. The academy, founded by legendary Indian shuttler Prakash Padukone, has long been known for producing talented badminton players and nurturing them with world-class coaching and facilities.

Training under experienced coaches has helped Devika improve not just her physical game but also her tactical awareness on court. Speaking about the guidance she receives at the academy, Devika acknowledged the role of her coaches in shaping her progress. “Vimal sir and Prakash sir have consistently been very supportive. They help us a lot tactically and guide us on how we should approach matches and different opponents,” she said.
While her achievements so far have been encouraging, Devika remains firmly focused on the next phase of her career. Her immediate target is to climb higher in the global rankings and establish herself among the elite players on the tour. “My next goal is to break into the top 30 in the world. I want to give my best effort in every tournament I play,” she said.
For the hardworking youngster, the journey continues with countless hours of practice, fitness sessions and tournament travel, all part of the grind required to succeed at the highest level. With determination, patience and strong support from her coaches, Devika is steadily moving forward, carrying with her the dream of representing India on the Olympic stage.
