Hero MotoCorp have etched their name in the history books, claiming their maiden World Championship victory at the grueling Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.
Aaron Marè, thrust into the spotlight due to Sebastian Buhler's injury, emerged as the star performer for the Indian team.
The South African rider displayed remarkable composure throughout the six-day desert rally, securing two stage wins and leading the race for four consecutive days to clinch the coveted top spot.
This triumph marks a watershed moment for Hero MotoCorp, not only signifying their first World Championship win but also propelling them to the leading position in the FIM World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC) 2024 manufacturers' standings.
This feat is unprecedented for an Indian manufacturer on the global stage.
While Marè basked in the glory of victory, his teammate Ross Branch narrowly missed out on a podium finish, securing a commendable fourth place. However, Branch's performance wasn't without its challenges.
Affectionately nicknamed the 'Kalahari Ferrari' for his blazing speed, he started the rally on a high note, clinching the Prologue stage. However, his momentum was halted on Stage 1 by a technical gremlin, costing him over 45 minutes and a shot at the top three.
Despite the setback, Branch showcased his resilience, putting in a spirited fightback to win multiple stages and finish the race, further solidifying his position at the top of the individual rider standings with 50 points. This, too, marks a first for Hero MotoCorp, solidifying their dominance in the early stages of the W2RC 2024.
