Eleven-year-old Atiqa Mir further strengthened her reputation as one of India’s brightest motorsport prospects with a stunning performance in Round 2 of the Champions of the Future Academy Program, producing a flawless weekend that saw her dominate every stage of the competition.

The young racer, who became the first Indian driver to receive backing from the Formula 1 Academy, delivered an exceptional display in the highly competitive OK-NJ category for drivers aged 12 to 14. Competing against a field filled with experienced racers, most of them older and male, Atiqa showcased remarkable maturity, speed and consistency throughout the event.

From qualifying to the heat races and both finals, Atiqa remained untouchable, establishing herself as the benchmark driver of the weekend. Her commanding performance placed her among an elite group of competitors, making her only the third driver in the history of the series to achieve a clean sweep by winning qualifying, all heat races and both finals in a single round.

The achievement marked another significant milestone in what has already been an impressive debut season in the category. Despite stepping up to a more demanding level of competition this year, Atiqa has consistently challenged and outperformed many of her more experienced rivals.

While her confidence and composure on the track were evident throughout the weekend, the emotional significance of the victory became clear when she stood atop the podium and listened to the Indian national anthem after her triumph. The young racer, who dreams of becoming the first woman to compete in Formula 1 since the early 1990s, was visibly moved by the moment.

Her dominance was underlined by the margin of victory in Round 2.2, where she crossed the finish line more than 2.6 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. In a category where all 25 drivers compete with identical equipment, such a gap is considered extraordinary and highlighted just how superior her pace was over the course of the event.

Born in Mumbai and tracing her family roots to Jammu and Kashmir, Atiqa laid the foundation for her success during qualifying. She secured pole position with a record-setting lap of 56.77 seconds, finishing nearly three-tenths of a second clear of her nearest challenger and demonstrating skill and confidence far beyond her years.

Her dominance continued in Heat Race 1, where she controlled proceedings from start to finish without ever appearing under pressure. In Heat Race 2, she once again asserted her authority, winning by more than a second and comfortably securing the top starting position for the final race.

The 15-lap final proved to be another showcase of her talent. Atiqa seized the lead immediately after the start and steadily increased her advantage, delivering a near-perfect drive. By the eighth lap she had already built a remarkable lead of 3.9 seconds, effectively ending any challenge from her rivals and cruising to a memorable victory.

Reflecting on her achievement, Atiqa said the demanding nature of the circuit made the result even more satisfying. “It is such a difficult and physical track, and I managed to win all the races. I was very emotional when the National Anthem played, and there is no better feeling for me than that,” she said.

Her success was particularly impressive considering the challenges she faced just a day earlier during Round 2.1. Setup issues limited her qualifying performance, leaving her fourth on the grid. Despite the setback, she fought back strongly to finish second in one heat race and first in the other, demonstrating resilience and determination.

Atiqa’s father, Asif Mir, himself a former Formula Asia vice-champion, expressed immense pride in his daughter’s achievement and praised her approach throughout the weekend.

“I was genuinely surprised by her pace, aggression and professional attitude across the entire event. She was very disappointed after the crash in the previous final, and I believe that motivated her to come back even stronger. The way she responded and delivered such a commanding performance was truly remarkable. It is a proud moment for Indian motorsport,” he said.

With another landmark victory added to her growing list of achievements, Atiqa continues to establish herself as one of the most exciting young talents in international karting and a promising future ambassador for Indian motorsport on the global stage.
