India 92 for 2 at lunch

KL Rahul out for 42, Sai Sudharshan fails to open account as Carse and Stokes share one wicket apiece

News Arena Network - Leeds - UPDATED: June 20, 2025, 05:56 PM - 2 min read

England captain Ben Stokes (left) reacts after bowling to India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal on the opening day of the first Test match between India and England at Headingley in Leeds on Friday.

India found themselves in a spot of bother when they lost two wickets in succession just before lunch on the first day of the opening Test match of the five-test series against England at Headingley on Friday. Once cruising at 91 without loss, India were 91 for 2 when lunch was called out.

KL Rahul fell eight runs short of what would have been a well-deserved half-century when he chased a ball outside the off stump which could have been better left alone. Sai Sudarshan was the next to go without opening his account.

Scoreboard: India 1st innings: Yashasvi Jaiswal not out 42, KL Rahul c Root b Carse 42, B Sai Sudharsan c Smith b Stokes 0; Extras: 8 (lb-6, nb-2); Total: 92/2 in 25.4 overs Fall of wickets: 1-91, 2-92; Bowling: Chris Woakes 7-1-22-0, Brydon Carse 8-3-23-1, Josh Tongue 5-0-21-0, Ben Stokes 5.4-1-20-1.
