India clinch top spot in ICC rankings across all formats

India's 4-1 series victory propels them to the top spot in Test rankings, reinforcing their leadership in the World Test Championship standings.

Following a resounding victory over England in Dharamsala, India's cricket team has ascended to the pinnacle of the ICC Test rankings, surpassing Australia in the latest rankings released by the governing body on Sunday.

India's triumph in the five-match series, clinching it 4-1, propelled Rohit Sharma's side to the top spot in the Test rankings, a significant achievement bolstered by their current leadership in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.

With this latest feat, India now reigns supreme in all three formats of the game, underscoring their dominance in contemporary cricket.

Even as the second Test between New Zealand and Australia unfolds in Christchurch, India's position at the top of the rankings remains secure, irrespective of the series outcome.

Despite Australia's recent victory over New Zealand, leading the two-Test series 1-0 after a commanding win in Wellington, India's 122 rating points place them five points ahead of the Aussies in the Test rankings.

Meanwhile, England stands third with 111 rating points.

In the limited-overs formats, India continues to showcase their prowess, boasting 121 rating points in ODIs, closely followed by Australia with 118 points. Similarly, in T20Is, India maintains a formidable lead with 266 rating points, with England trailing behind at 256 points.

Despite a setback against South Africa, where they briefly relinquished the top spot, India's decisive victories over England in Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala solidified their return to the summit of Test cricket.

The series against England, which commenced with a narrow defeat in Hyderabad, witnessed a spirited comeback from the home team, clinching four consecutive wins to assert their dominance on home soil.
