India could fly to Pakistan, return same day in PCB proposal

The Champions Trophy, scheduled from 19th February to 9th March 2025, will feature matches in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has floated a proposal to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), suggesting that the Indian cricket team could return to New Delhi or Chandigarh after playing their Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan.

The proposal seeks to address India’s security concerns about staying in Pakistan during the tournament.

According to a PCB source, the board has “verbally” discussed this arrangement with Indian officials, but nothing has been formally presented in writing.

“Yes, these options have been discussed verbally between officials as a way to ensure that India plays its matches in Pakistan,” the source confirmed.

The Champions Trophy, scheduled from 19th February to 9th March 2025, will feature matches in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi.

India’s group-stage fixtures—against Bangladesh (20th February), Pakistan (23rd February), and New Zealand (2nd March)—are set to take place in Lahore, given the city’s proximity to the Indian border and logistical convenience.

The PCB’s proposal suggests that India could set up a camp in New Delhi or Chandigarh and fly to Lahore for their matches using chartered flights.

Lahore has been chosen due to its easy access from India. However, the PCB remains adamant that the tournament final must be held in Lahore, regardless of India’s participation.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is also exploring a hybrid model for the tournament, potentially hosting some matches outside Pakistan.

This is being considered as India’s participation remains uncertain, given that the team has not toured Pakistan since 2008. Dubai and Sri Lanka are among the alternative venues under consideration for these matches.
