A ten-member Indian contingent is set to compete at the World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025, scheduled to commence on Monday in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. The tournament, hosted at the Rafain Palace Hotel and Convention, will feature over 130 boxers, including Olympians, representing 19 nations.
The competing nations include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chinese Taipei, France, England, Germany, Guatemala, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Norway, Panama, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, USA, Uzbekistan, and Wales.
The championship marks the first World Boxing Cup of the year and will have events for both men and women. However, India will field only male pugilists across ten weight divisions.
Among the Indian contingent, Asian Games bronze medallist Narender stands as the most prominent name.
The squad, barring Jugnoo (85kg), earned selection by triumphing in their respective weight categories at the National Championships held in Bareilly this January.
Jugnoo, who finished as a runner-up in the national event, was drafted in following the unavailability of the national champion, Sumit.
India will not be fielding a women's team at the event due to the delayed Women’s National Championships, which concluded only earlier this week in Greater Noida.
The Indian squad will be coached by Dharmendra Singh Yadav, who has been appointed as the head coach for the tournament.
The Brazil edition is the first of three World Boxing Cups scheduled this year, with Kazakhstan and India set to host the subsequent events in June-July and November, respectively.
Ranking points earned in these meets will determine qualification for the season-ending World Boxing Cup Finals.
