England’s top batsman Joe Root has said that India have got “all their bases covered” for the five-match Test series despite the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“You can only be excited. These are the series you play for. The opportunities in front of us are epic,” Root, 34, said in an interaction with Sky Sports commentator and former teammate Stuart Broad on Wednesday.
Root said that looking at India’s progression as a team across all formats, it was evident that they have all bases covered, which includes a great seam attack, talented batters and a very strong spin attack. “They are going to compete anywhere in the world, but our record at home makes for a fantastic series. We will go into it with confidence, but also with a huge amount of respect for what they will bring,” Root added.
Having scored more than 13,000 runs in Tests, Root has already cemented his place among the greats of the game, and he will look to add to his run tally in the coming matches against India and Australia.
