India’s Anupama Ramachandran held her nerve to defeat Hong Kong’s Ng On Yee 3-2 and become the first Indian woman to win the IBSF World Snooker (15-red) title on Thursday.
The 23-year-old from Chennai, who had claimed the Asian snooker title last year, edged out the three-time world champion in a tense decider. With the score at 60-61, On Yee missed the final black, allowing Anupama to pot it into the bottom left-hand pocket and secure the title.
Anupama staged two spirited comebacks during the best-of-five final. After dropping the opening frame, she bounced back to level the scores. Trailing 1-2 in the fourth, she produced a gritty 29-break to force a decider. In the final frame, despite a safety lapse that left points on the table, Anupama capitalised on her opponent’s miss to clinch victory.
Earlier, she had ousted compatriot Keerthana Pandian 3-1 in the semifinals, while On Yee defeated So Man Yan 3-0 to set up the championship clash.
