Indian women boxers delivered a commanding performance at the Asian U19 Boxing Championships in Bangkok, with Nisha and Muskan clinching gold medals as part of a nine-medal haul for the country on Sunday.
Facing some of Asia’s toughest opponents from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, China and Japan, the young Indian squad stood out for its consistency and competitive spirit, returning with two golds, five silvers and two bronzes from the 10 women who entered the ring in the U19 category.
Nisha, competing in the 54kg class, raised her intensity in the decisive third round to outbox China’s Sirui Yang and secure a 4:1 victory. Muskan (57kg), starting with fierce intent, absorbed the challenge from Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan Ermek before sealing a 3:2 split decision.
India’s medal tally swelled further through silver medals won by Aarti Kumari (75kg), who lost to China’s Tongtong Gu; Kritika Wasan (80kg), edged 2:3 by Kazakhstan’s Kuralay Yeginbaikyzy; Parchi Tokas (80+kg), also beaten 2:3 by Uzbekistan’s Sobirakhon Shakhobidinova; Vini (60kg), who fell to Uzbekistan’s Sevara Mamatova; and Nisha (65kg), going down 4:1 to Japan’s Arinda Akimoto in a second final.

The bronze medals came from earlier rounds, ensuring that all but one of the Indian women pugilists in this age group finished on the podium.
Three Indian men were set to fight for gold later in the day, while the U22 category promises further success, with five Indians reaching their finals on Monday and the contingent assured of 13 medals.
The championships, which bring together rising boxing talent from across Asia, are a crucial proving ground for young fighters aiming for the senior circuit and future international representation. India fielded a 40-member team across U19 and U22 divisions, reflecting its growing investment in grassroots boxing.
