India secured a resounding 88-run victory over Pakistan in their Women’s World Cup 2025 clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday, extending their WODI head-to-head record against Pakistan to 12-0.
Sent in to bat, India were initially slowed by a tricky pitch and intermittent disruptions caused by a sudden surge of bugs on the field, halting play twice during the innings. Despite these challenges, Richa Ghosh’s explosive 35 off just 20 balls, coupled with Harleen Deol’s 46, powered India to a competitive total of 247. Contributions from Pratika Rawal (31) and Jemimah Rodrigues (32) further steadied the innings after early setbacks.
Pakistan’s reply faltered early following a top-order collapse. A bizarre run out of opener Muneeba Ali and early wickets left the visitors reeling at 26 for 3 inside eight overs. Sidra Amin offered resistance with a painstaking 81 from 106 balls, while Natalia Pervaiz added 33. However, India’s disciplined bowling, led by Kranti Goud (3/20) and Deepti Sharma (3/45), ensured Pakistan were bowled out for 159 in 43 overs. Shree Charani (2/38) and Sneh Rana (2/52) also made crucial breakthroughs.
India's commanding 88-run victory over Pakistan in the Women's World Cup 2025 has propelled them to the top of the standings. With two points from one match, they lead the table ahead of Australia and Bangladesh, both with two points but slightly lower net run rates.
Looking ahead, India will face England in their next match on October 19 at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.
The top four teams from the league stage will advance to the semi-finals, with the final scheduled for November 2 in either Bengaluru or Colombo.
The contest was not without tension. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana did not shake hands at the toss, continuing a
recent trend displayed earlier by both the men's cricket teams, during their Asia Cup ties.
