The International Hockey Federation's Executive Board announced on Tuesday that India will host the men's Junior Hockey World Cup next year, marking the event's return to the country after nine years.

The tournament, scheduled for December, will witness a historic participation of 24 teams, a first in the history of the Hockey Junior World Cup.

FIH President Tayyab Ikram expressed, "Giving more opportunities to play to a larger and more diverse number of National Associations is one of the key pillars of our empowerment and engagement strategy."

He emphasised the value of diversity in enriching hockey events, citing the recent FIH Hockey5s World Cup in Oman.

"I'm very happy that we've increased the number of participating teams for the FIH Hockey Junior World Cups," Ikram added. "I look forward to seeing these 24 young teams, representing the future of our sport, next year!"

The last edition of the tournament was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2023, with Germany emerging as winners after defeating France 2-1. Spain and India secured the third and fourth positions respectively.

India has previously hosted the tournament three times in 2013 (New Delhi), 2016 (Lucknow), and 2021 (Bhubaneswar), with India clinching the title in 2016 as well.

FIH President Tayyab Ikram extended gratitude to Hockey India, acknowledging their commitment to organizing another outstanding event. President of Hockey India Dilip Tirkey expressed excitement about showcasing India's rich hockey legacy and providing a platform for young talent.

"This prestigious tournament highlights India's growing importance in international hockey," Tirkey said. "We're excited to share India's rich hockey history and provide a stage for young talent to showcase their skills."

Secretary-general of Hockey India Bhola Nath Singh termed this as a significant step, appreciating FIH's trust in them. He emphasized their commitment to making the tournament a memorable experience that celebrates the essence of hockey.
