Indian Army clinches victory in recently concluded Khelo India Winter Games

The Indian Army emerged triumphant in the fourth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games, a multi-sport event held across Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir over two legs.

 

Securing a total of 21 medals, including 10 gold, five silver, and six bronze, the Indian Army displayed exceptional prowess in the various sporting disciplines.

 

Following closely behind, Karnataka claimed the second position with 11 medals, out of which nine were gold and two silver. Maharashtra clinched the third spot, amassing a total of 22 medals, consisting of seven gold, eight silver, and seven bronze.

 

Hosts Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir secured the sixth and ninth positions respectively in the overall standings. Ladakh accumulated two gold, six silver, and seven bronze medals, while J&K bagged one gold, six silver, and four bronze medals.

 

The Khelo India Winter Games, initiated in 2020 and supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, are organized by the J-K Sports Council and the Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

The tournament's first leg, held in Leh, Ladakh, from February 2 to 6, witnessed the participation of 344 athletes from 15 states, union territories, and two public institutions. Competitions in ice hockey and speed skating were fiercely contested during this phase.

 

The remaining sports, including ski mountaineering, alpine skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, and gandola, were held at Gulmarg, where an additional 361 competitors vied for top honors.

 

In the Ladakh phase, Maharashtra dominated with 20 medals, including six golds, leading the medal tally. Karnataka followed closely with eight medals, including six golds, securing the second position.

Ladakh stood third with 13 medals, including two golds, showcasing commendable performance in their home terrain.
