India's freestyle wrestlers concluded their campaign at the 2025 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship with a commendable display, securing two silver and one bronze medal on the final day of the tournament held in Amman, Jordan.
The concluding day witnessed Indian grapplers showcasing their mettle across five weight categories.
Among them, Udit (61kg) and Deepak Punia (92kg) advanced to the finals, competing for gold, while Mukul Dahiya (86kg) and Dinesh Kumar (125kg) fought for bronze.
Udit, who had previously claimed silver in the 57kg category last year, demonstrated remarkable skill and resilience in his quest for another podium finish.
The Indian wrestler outclassed Kyrgyzstan’s Bekbolot Myrzanazar Ullu in the quarter-finals with a 9-6 victory, followed by a hard-fought 2-0 win against China’s Wanhao Zou in the semi-finals.
However, in the title clash, Udit fell short against Japan’s Takara Suda, losing 6-4 and settling for silver.

Deepak Punia’s journey to the final was equally impressive.
The seasoned Indian grappler overcame Kyrgyzstan’s Bekzat Rakhimov with a 12-7 win in the quarter-finals and followed it up with a commanding 8-1 victory over Japan’s Takashi Ishiguro in the semi-finals.
However, the summit clash proved to be a tough challenge, as Iran’s Amirhossein Biglar dominated the contest, securing a 10-0 win to hand Deepak the silver medal.
Dinesh Kumar (125kg) exhibited immense determination in a gruelling bronze-medal match against Turkmenistan’s Zyyamuhammet Saparov. The Indian wrestler displayed great composure, securing a dramatic 12-12 victory on technical superiority to clinch the bronze.
Meanwhile, Mukul Dahiya (86kg) narrowly missed out on a podium finish after losing 4-2 to Japan’s Tatsuya Shirai in the bronze-medal contest.
With these results, the Indian freestyle wrestling contingent concluded their Asian Championship campaign with a tally of two silver and one bronze on the final day.
In the overall medal standings, the Indian squad secured a gold, three silver, and six bronze medals, further cementing the country’s growing stature in the sport.
The performances of the Indian wrestlers in Amman reflected their tenacity and growing dominance in Asian wrestling, with the contingent delivering yet another praiseworthy outing on the continental stage.
