On Monday, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history by scoring the second-fastest century in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, the young batter from Bihar reached his hundred in just 35 balls while chasing 210 runs against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Vaibhav also broke a world record by becoming the youngest male cricketer to score a T20 century (based on available records). The previous record was held by former Maharashtra player Vijay Hari Zol, who scored a T20 hundred at 18 years of age in 2013.

Vaibhav reached his fifty in just 17 balls and then took another 18 balls to complete his historic century.

Vaibhav delivered one of the most exciting batting performances ever seen in the IPL, smashing 11 sixes and 7 boundaries. Right from the first over, he made his intentions clear by hitting a six off Mohammed Siraj.

He fearlessly attacked some of the world’s top bowlers like Siraj, Ishant Sharma, Prasidh Krishna, and Rashid Khan. Vaibhav completed his hundred by hitting Rashid Khan, one of the world's best T20 bowlers, for a huge six over mid-wicket.

11 Sixes and 7 Boundaries

Vaibhav showed great bat swing, sending 11 balls flying into the stands. He was not worried about the bowler’s reputation. He cleared his leg and powerfully hit sixes over long-off, long-on, and mid-wicket. His wristwork was also impressive, as he easily flicked some deliveries for sixes.

One of the most thrilling moments came when he hit Afghanistan bowler Karim Janat for 30 runs in a single over, smashing three sixes and three boundaries.

Vaibhav was eventually dismissed for 101 runs off 38 balls by Prasidh Krishna in the 12th over. But by then, he had already done major damage, building a 166-run opening partnership – the highest ever for Rajasthan Royals in IPL history.

When he got out, every player from Gujarat Titans came up to congratulate him. Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid, who was sitting in a wheelchair in the dugout, stood up and gave Vaibhav a standing ovation.

Vaibhav, who had impressed in domestic cricket last season, was bought by Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.1 crore. In just his third IPL match, the 14-year-old scored a brilliant century – an innings that cricket fans will remember for a long time.
