The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 mini-auction will be held in Goa on December 16. The day-long event will coincide with the second One-Day International (ODI) between India and Sri Lanka, scheduled in Bengaluru.
Franchises have been given November 15 as the deadline to submit their player retention lists. After the deadline, the IPL will circulate the registered player pool among the teams for shortlisting. The final player list and the sequence of auction sets are expected to reach the franchises during the week before the auction.
The trade window has already seen two deals since the conclusion of the 2026 season. Lucknow Super Giants traded captain Rishabh Pant to Delhi Capitals in June, receiving wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav in return.
In the latest deal, Delhi Capitals sent fast bowler T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad in exchange for uncapped leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari.
Under IPL regulations, the trade window opens one month after the end of a season and remains available until one week before the auction. It reopens after the auction and stays open until one month before the start of the following season.
The schedule for the 2027 IPL season has not been finalised. When the tournament’s scheduling window for the next three seasons was announced in 2024, the 2027 edition had been planned for March 14 to May 30.
However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia indicated after the Board of Control for Cricket in India's Annual General Meeting in September this year that the 2027 season could begin towards the end of March.
The December event will be the final mini-auction of the IPL’s current cycle. A mega auction is planned before the 2028 season and will coincide with the start of the league’s next media rights cycle. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has not yet issued the tender for those rights.
In 2022, IPL media rights were sold for Rs 48,390.5 crore, equivalent to approximately USD 6.2 billion, placing the league among the most valuable sporting properties in the world.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions. The Bengaluru-based franchise defeated Gujarat Titans in the 2026 final in Ahmedabad to win the title.
