India’s Rudrankksh Patil and Arya Borse earned a silver medal in the Air Rifle Mixed Team event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Lima, Peru, on Sunday.
Competing at the Las Palmas shooting range, the Indian pair fell 11-17 to Norway’s Jon-Hermann Hegg and Jeanette Hegg Duestad in the gold medal contest.
This marked India’s third silver at the ongoing Lima World Cup, adding to a tally that also includes two golds and a bronze. With these achievements, India stood third on the medal table, trailing only China and the United States.
Patil and Borse had qualified for the gold medal match with a combined score of 632.5, marginally behind the Norwegian duo who topped the table with 632.6.
Despite a valiant effort, they were unable to overturn that slender deficit in the final. Both Hegg and Duestad are experienced shooters, having competed in individual Olympic finals.
Another Indian pair, Arjun Babuta and Narmada Nithin, concluded the event in seventh position with a score of 630.0 in a field of 24 teams.
Elsewhere, Indian hopes in the trap events failed to materialise, with none of the shooters making it to the finals.
In the women’s trap, Pragati Dubey was India’s best performer, scoring 113 to place seventh—just one position short of qualification. Bhavya Tripathi shot 110 for 12th place, while Neeru finished 18th with 105.
In the men’s trap, Prithviraj Tondaiman and Zoravar Sandhu managed scores of 117 and 116 respectively, both falling short of the qualifying mark. Lakshay Sheoran, still with a round to go, had no mathematical chance of crossing the 118-mark needed to make the final.
In the women’s 25m pistol event, the first duelling round was completed on Sunday. Manu Bhaker registered a strong 291 (96, 99, 96) to hold second place, while Esha Singh also stayed in contention, finishing sixth with a score of 289. Simranpreet Kaur Brar narrowly missed the top eight with a 286, placing ninth.
The trio will return to action on Monday for the second rapid-fire round, with hopes of advancing to the finals later in the day.
