In the men's singles semifinal of Wimbledon 2023, Novak Djokovic—the most successful men's tennis player of the current era—overcame Lorenzo Musetti with ease on Friday.
The Serbian ace put on his best effort, defeating the Italian in straight sets to record a decisive victory, despite a strange start to the opening set in which he was broken early.
On Sunday, Djokovic will now play Carlos Alcaraz in the championship match. Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev of Russia in four sets to get to the final.
The seven-time Wimbledon winner Djokovic defeated the 25th-seeded Italian 6-4, 7-6 (7/2), 6-4 to go to his 10th final at the All England Club, only five weeks after undergoing knee surgery.
At 37, Djokovic has the chance to equal Roger Federer's record of eight Wimbledon titles and become the tournament's oldest champion of the modern era if he avenges last year's dramatic five-set final loss to Alcaraz.
The last time Djokovic and Musetti met was at the French Open in June, where Djokovic claimed victory in a third-round match that ended at 3:07 a.m.
On Friday, however, Djokovic was untroubled on his way to a 37th Grand Slam final. He broke for a 4-2 lead in the first set and, despite surrendering the advantage and missing two set points in the ninth game, he broke again in the 10th to claim the set.
In the 2023 Wimbledon final, Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in a five-set thriller.
