Ivory Coast defeated Ecuador 1-0 in a nail-biting encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after making a comeback to the tournament nearly 13 years later.
The two teams fought hard on the field and created multiple chances, but it was Amad Diallo’s 90th-minute screamer that sealed the win for Ivory Coast.
The team created three clear chances before the Manchester United winger broke the deadlock to earn three points for his side in front of a sold-out crowd at the Philadelphia Stadium on Sunday.
Meanwhile, four-time World Cup champions Germany hammered debutants Curacao 7-1 in their first match of the tournament, raising the bar for the rest of the top teams in the 2026 World Cup.
In the sixth minute of this Group E match, Germany scored first. Curacao, playing in the World Cup for the first time, also scored a goal.
This was their first goal in the history of the tournament.
On the other hand, Germany made the match one-sided by scoring six back-to-back goals.
Germany’s Kai Havertz scored a brace, while five other players from the team also found the net and registered their names on the one-sided score sheet.
Germany will now face Ivory Coast in their next match, while Curacao will take on Ecuador.
