ICC chairman Jay Shah meets J&K players after historic Ranji Trophy win.

The Jammu & Kashmir Ranji Trophy-winning team met International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah on Thursday to express gratitude for his pivotal role in strengthening cricket in the region during his earlier tenure as secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The BCCI shared on social media shared: “The Jammu and Kashmir team expressed a heartfelt desire to meet ICC chairman Jay Shah following their historic win in the Ranji Trophy final.” The post highlighted the significance of J&K’s maiden Ranji Trophy title and thanked Jay Shah for his consistent encouragement and support for the team over the years.

Following the meeting, the BCCI posted on X: “We sincerely thank Mr. Shah for taking the time to meet the team and for sharing his words of encouragement with the players as they celebrate this historic milestone. Congratulations to the entire J&K team and the cricket fraternity for scripting a remarkable chapter in Indian domestic cricket.”

Under captain Paras Dogra’s leadership, Jammu & Kashmir defeated Karnataka to lift the Ranji Trophy after a 67-year wait, securing the title by virtue of a massive 291-run first-innings lead.

The victory was built on outstanding all-round performances. Shubham Pundir scored a vital century, Yawar Hassan contributed a crucial 88, and pacer Aquib Nabi delivered a match-defining 5/54 in 23 overs that dismantled Karnataka’s star-studded batting line-up.

Karnataka’s Mayank Agarwal was the lone centurion for his side, scoring 160 before being dismissed on Day 4, triggering a dramatic collapse in the face of J&K’s disciplined pace and spin attack.

The triumph marks a landmark moment for cricket in Jammu & Kashmir, with the team’s success widely attributed to sustained grassroots development, improved infrastructure, and strong institutional backing during Jay Shah’s tenure at the BCCI.
