India's leading jockey Suraj Narredu is set to represent the country once again at the prestigious Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup, scheduled to be held at Ascot Racecourse in England on August 8.

Widely regarded as one of the most distinctive events on the international horse racing calendar, the Shergar Cup brings together some of the world's finest jockeys in a team-based format that celebrates teamwork, skill and sporting excellence.

The competition features elite riders representing Great Britain & Ireland, Europe, Hong Kong and the Rest of the World, making it one of the most eagerly anticipated international fixtures in the sport.

The 2026 edition will mark a new chapter in Narredu's Shergar Cup journey as he makes his debut for the Rest of the World Team. With Team Asia not featuring this year, the Indian jockey has been selected to ride alongside some of the biggest names in international racing, including legendary Japanese jockey Yutaka Take, as they take on leading riders from across the globe.

Narredu had created history at last year's edition while representing Team Asia, becoming the first Indian jockey to win a race at the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup. He secured victory in the Shergar Cup Stayers at Ascot, a landmark achievement that marked a watershed moment for Indian horse racing and helped put the country firmly on the global racing map.

Building on that historic success, Narredu will return to Ascot with valuable experience and renewed confidence. His participation will once again provide him with an opportunity to showcase Indian talent on one of the biggest international stages in horse racing.

"Representing India at the Shergar Cup is always a matter of immense pride. Last year's victory was one of the most memorable moments of my career, and returning to Ascot gives me another opportunity to compete alongside some of the world's best jockeys while flying the Indian flag," Narredu said ahead of the event.

"This year, I'll be representing the Rest of the World Team, and I'm looking forward to embracing a new challenge. Every international event is an opportunity to showcase the quality of Indian racing, and I'm excited to compete once again," he added.

The Shergar Cup has steadily established itself as one of international racing's premier team competitions, bringing together champion jockeys from across the world at the iconic Ascot Racecourse. The 2026 edition will also witness the debut of Team Hong Kong, which will join the established teams from Great Britain & Ireland, Europe and the Rest of the World, further enhancing the event's global appeal.

Narredu's continued participation reflects his growing stature among the international racing elite. With more than two decades at the highest level of Indian horse racing, he has recorded over 2,500 career victories, won the Indian Derby four times and claimed 29 Champion Jockey titles.

He has also represented India across multiple international racing jurisdictions. His growing presence on the global circuit continues to inspire a new generation of Indian riders while playing a key role in raising the profile of Indian horse racing on the international stage.
