Former India captain and 1983 World Cup winning squad member Sunil Gavaskar, has offered reassurance amid the ongoing scrutiny of star batter Virat Kohli's performance in the T20 World Cup group stage.

Kohli's recent string of low scores, including a golden duck against the USA, has raised concerns despite his stellar IPL season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

However, Gavaskar believes there's no cause for alarm regarding Kohli's form and emphasizes the need for patience.

"The biggest motivation for any player is winning matches, especially for the country. Kohli has been a key player for India over the years, winning numerous games. I believe he recognises that. It's still early in the tournament, with Super 8s, semi-finals, and hopefully the final ahead. He just needs to remain patient and have faith in himself, which I think he has plenty of," Gavaskar commented post-match.

India's advancement to the T20 World Cup's next round assures Kohli of more opportunities to rediscover his form, according to Gavaskar.

"Three low scores don't indicate he's out of form. Sometimes, you face good deliveries. On another day, the ball might have flown wide or over the slip for a boundary, but today it didn't. There's nothing to worry about. We need to have faith in him. I strongly believe he will bounce back, sooner rather than later," Gavaskar added.

Kohli's challenging start to the 2024 T20 World Cup campaign extends to three matches. His dismissal against the USA saw Saurabh Netravalkar sending one across him, resulting in an edge to the wicketkeeper.

After playing three consecutive games in New York, India's final group match will take place in Florida. Kohli will be hopeful for a change in fortunes with the change in venue.
