Malaysia welcomes top teams for FIH Hockey Nations Cup.

Malaysia is set to host the third edition of the FIH Hockey Men’s Nations Cup from 15 to 21 June, marking a significant event in international hockey.

The tournament, announced by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), will see eight teams—France, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Wales—competing for a coveted spot in the 2025-26 FIH Hockey Pro League, the top tier of global hockey.

The line-up of teams reflects a high level of competition, with all participants except Pakistan having played in the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup in 2023.

The FIH Hockey Nations Cup was introduced in 2021 to provide a platform for the best-ranked teams that are not part of the Pro League, offering them a chance to secure promotion for the next season.

The tournament has been previously hosted in Potchefstroom, South Africa, in 2022 and Gniezno, Poland, in 2024. South Africa emerged victorious in the inaugural edition, while New Zealand claimed the title in the following one.

This year, Malaysia will bring the event to its shores for the first time, adding to its rich history of hosting international hockey competitions.

Subahan bin Kamal, President of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation, expressed gratitude to FIH for the opportunity to host the tournament. He highlighted Malaysia’s excitement and commitment to delivering a successful event.

He also acknowledged the support of Malaysia’s Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, in making the event possible.

FIH President Tayyab Ikram welcomed Malaysia as the host, praising its legacy of organising top-tier hockey tournaments. He expressed confidence that the event would be a great success and reaffirmed the importance of the Nations Cup in shaping the future of the Pro League.
